Travelling Across the Bulgarian Zone of the Danube River
Passengers on a boat should have
identity documents (passports or travel documents) endorsed with a Bulgarian visa or entry clearance if necessary
boat registration documents
documents entitling the people to sail the boat
National certificates for right of sailing.
The boat should comply with the internationally established regulations for sailing across the Bulgarian zone of the Danube.
The above documents should be presented on entering the first Bulgarian port and on exiting the last one. Entry to Romanian ports is prohibited.
Border controls are conducted when entering or exiting a Bulgarian public transport port – Vidin, Lom, Oriahovo, Somovit-Nikopol, Svishtov, Ruse and Silistra.
When sailing across the Bulgarian zone of the Danube, stops are forbidden at islands in the river or outside ports or other bases.
When sailing past the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, boat crew members should strictly observe the relevant international safety regulations. Taking of photographs is only allowed with permission from the Nuclear Power Plant’s Security Department.
The timetable and route of the journey through the Bulgarian zone of the Danube should be presented at the regional border sectors in the cities of Vidin and Ruse.
With regard to sailing in the Bulgarian territorial waters of the Black Sea, a boat can sail freely through them and visit the open ports (Article 7 of The Maritime Areas, Territorial Waterways and Ports of the Republic of Bulgaria Act), provided that crew members are in possession of the above documents.
